A Passion for Colours - The Colours of Margaret Coen

MARGARET COEN (1909-1993) was introduced to watercolour painting by Norman Lindsay, at the age of twenty when she first visited Springwood. By the early 1930s she had begun exhibiting her own rich watercolours of flowers, people and landscapes and often worked alongside Norman in his 12 Bridge Street studio.

In the 1940s she was a regular painting houseguest at Springwood and had also acquired a facility with oils. While watercolour remained her first love always, she painted in both mediums until about 1970. From then on she painted exclusively in watercolour, her works gaining a particular freedom and grace. This exhibition, with works from 1934 to 1990, celebrates the colour and span of her painting life.

Exhibition dates

This exhibition runs from 16 May to 31 August 2011.
